Welcome

A Message From The Big Sir,

SIRS…. Promoting the independence and dignity of Retirement.

I wish to extend a hearty welcome to you all and express my thanks for being selected to represent you this year as Big Sir. In the short time I have been a member, I have made great friends and truly enjoyed the time spent, both on and off the golf course.

Camaraderie, what a great word.  It is perhaps the main reason I joined SIRs.  It is a word I learned to appreciate during my brief time in the U.S. Army. Learning to work with, support, and appreciate your fellow man are life’s lessons that make our time on this earth worthwhile.  We learn so much from others.

We all have stories of adventures that have shaped our lives. Some have been exciting and dangerous and some not so much.  SIRs allows us to join freely in friendship and to share our stories--the good times and bad, our successes and failures, the smiles and tears of our lives, our families and our friends, and our hopes and our dreams.

We gather to exercise our right of free speech, always keeping in mind the feelings of our brothers. We are, in essence, a family.

We gather monthly to hear interesting members of our community, as they share issues of importance to us and our families. There is always a cornucopia of mixed information from Medical Services, Recreational, Police, and Fire. We learn, we laugh, we think, and we grow with each new speaker.

I would ask that each member of our SIRS Branch, bring in at least one guest during this coming year. I know you have a friend that has retired recently; He needs to know about us. The more the merrier. Just call 530-224-8722 and let us know that you are bringing a guest.

Please stop me and say hello.  I’m easy to find and I love people. My wife says, “You can make a friend in an empty closet”… I think she’s right. She usually is.

I’m looking forward to a great year. See you at the Lodge, on the Links, or even perhaps at the Fishing Club.

With sincere respect… and as always…. For God and Country

Eric W. Measles Big SIR
